Team India physio Patrick Farhat is travelling with the two injured players (Lokesh Rahul and Murali Vijay) to London for their treatment, it is learnt here.

“Look, this is not the first instance when the physio has travelled with the players on overseas tour. India is not playing any international match before the IPL season is over and he will be handy to assess the fitness and rehabilitation issues and co-ordinate with the surgeons in UK”, the BCCI source, speaking exclusively, said.

“The physio did not accompany Rohit Sharma for his surgery because he was busy in the home matches and Rohit’s case was a sure surgery case, whereas Rahul’s shoulder injury and Murali Vijay’s wrist injury need consultation prior to their operation”, the source further added.

One Dr. George is roped in for Rahul’s consultation, it is learnt.

Sports hernia :The 30year-old off-spinner R. Ashwin needs no surgery at this point of time, according to his personal coach Sunil Subramanium.

Ashwin is missing the IPL matches because of sports hernia. “It (sports hernia) is a terminology used by the doctors. How many overs Ashwin bowled this season ? It is not a serious injury. Ashwin needs rest now and no surgery is thought of”.

“Sports hernia is a problem known to occur in athletes. In some cases, surgical intervention is required. A couple of athletes have in the past been overseas to get it treated. It does not fall in the domain of an orthopaedic surgeon”, India’s renowned surgeon Anant Joshi, speaking exclusively, says.

“The BCCI medical team” takes decisions. I am currently not a part of this and have no idea who constitutes this”, Dr. Joshi, who has treated several players and players still go to him for advice and surgery, added. Dr. Joshi has also served at the ICC’s medical panel.
