3 Super Overs in a Single T20I Match! Netherlands Historic Win vs Nepal

3 Super Overs in a Single T20I Match: Netherlands’ Historic Win vs Nepal!

Rekcently, the Netherlands achieved a tremendous victory over Nepal after three super overs during a T20I tri-series in Glasgow. This was indeed the first time in the men’s T20 Internationals (T20Is) that a single game has proceeded into triple super overs.

Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane’s triple-wicket haul restricted Netherlands to 152/7 in 20 overs, but his team fell short in the run chase despite Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel’s significant contributions with the bat.

Also, Daniel Doram was in solid form, whose 3-fer bolstered the Netherlands’ winning chances. However, he lost his momentum in the last over as the Nepal tailender smashed 2 fours to level the score, which led to the first super over of the match.

A Tailender’s Show Before the First Super Over

Nepal’s spinner Sandeep Lamichhane fumed with 3/18 in his 4-over spell that weakened the Netherlands’ batting line-up. Still, the Dutch tailender Saqib Zulfiqar remained unbeaten and scored a quickfire 25 runs from 12 balls (including 1 four and 2 sixes), steering his team to cross the 150-run mark.

Despite Daniel Doram’s dangerous spell of 3/14 in 4 overs, the Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel’s 48-run knock out of 35 balls (including 3 fours and 2 sixes) guided his team closer to chasing the 153-run target.

With 16 runs required for Nepal in the last over, the Netherlands were completely set after Rohit’s dismissal.

Surprisingly, the two tailenders, Nandan Yadav and Sandeep Lamichhane, together scored 15 runs off the 20th over. Particularly, Nandan struck a four off the last ball that tied the scores and paved the way to a thrilling super over contest.

1st Super Over: Netherlands Openers’ Heroics

Nepal smashed 19 runs off a single over when batting first. Out of which, Kushal Bhurtel scored 18 runs off just 5 balls by smashing a four and 2 sixes

However, the Netherlands’ openers Max O’Dowd (12 runs from 3 balls— including a four and a six) and Michael Levitt (6 runs from 3 balls— including a six) together scored 19 runs. This tied the first super over and led to the second.

2nd Super Over: Nepal Opening Batters Level The Score

Netherlands batted first this time and scored 17 runs in the second super over by losing a wicket of Scott Edwards, who smashed a six and scored 9 runs off 4 deliveries. While Max O’Dowd hammered another six to score 7 runs off 2 balls

However, Nepal once again tallied the scores with their captain Rohit Paudel (7 runs from 2 balls) smashing a six, while Dipendra Singh Airee (10 runs from 4 balls) hit a six and a four to take the game to the third over.

3rd Super Over: A Lackluster Performance by Nepal

Netherlands off-spinner Zach Lion-Cachet’s 2 wickets made the third super over disastrous for Nepal as both the batters were dismissed for a duck

Ultimately, the Netherlands batter Michael Levitt hit a six off the first ball, which concluded the memorable and most electrifying clash in style.
