‘Boss Baby’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi Breaks Big World Records to become Youngest T20 Centurion! 

On April 28 (Monday), the 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered multiple records to become the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket. He recorded a stunning 35-ball ton for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. 

The left-handed batter not only became the youngest player to reach the milestone but also smashed the fastest IPL century in a successful run chase. This led RR to achieve the fastest 200+ run chase in IPL history. Also, he became the youngest player to win the Player of the Match (POTM) award in the history of IPL. 

Interestingly, the teenager set the cricket world by storm only in his third IPL game and earned the nickname of ‘Boss Baby in Cricket’.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi: Birth of the ‘Boss Baby in Cricket’

Hailing from Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born on 27th March 2011, five days before when Team India lifted the ODI World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in the same year (on April 02). 

He is the same Indian teen prodigy who earlier bagged an 11 million contract (INR 1.1 crore) during the mega auction. Also, he created a sensation by smashing a huge six off the first ball in his debut IPL match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19. 

Early Life of Vaibhav Suryavanshi: 

Vaibhav’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, a farmer in Samastipur, first noticed his son’s talent at the age of four, and helped him start his cricket journey at an early stage. Also, he sold his farmland four years ago to meet the financial requirement for accomplishing Vaibhav’s dream of becoming a successful cricket player. 

Moreover, Sanjeev coached his son before joining him in a cricket academy in Samastipur at the age of 9. Later, he participated in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy representing Bihar’s Under-19 team when he was 12 years old.

At the age of 12 years and 284 days, Vaibhav marked his first-class debut for Bihar against Mumbai in January 2024. He became the youngest debutant to play a first class match since 1986 as well as the second to participate in Ranji Trophy for Bihar. 

One of his notable performances includes a 104-run knock-out of just 62 balls against Australia, when he made his Under-19 debut in a youth test match in Chennai in September 2024. 

Overall, Sanjeev’s sacrifices developed into beneficial results when Vaibhav was selected by the Royals in the mega auction and played his first IPL match, replacing the injured full-time skipper Sanju Samson.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi batted at a strike rate of 265.79 and scored a quickfire 101 runs from just 38 balls (including 7 fours and 11 sixes) against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Ultimately, he guided his team to secure a dominating 8-wicket victory by chasing down a mammoth target of 210 in just 15.5 overs.
