Report: Highest IPL Total Ever by Sunrisers at Chinnaswamy

Sunrisers Set New Records at Chinnaswamy Stadium

In an electrifying night of cricket at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Sunrisers Hyderabad crafted a masterclass in T20 batting, setting a new IPL record by posting a mammoth total of 287 for 3. This spectacle not only marked the highest total in IPL history but also the greatest match aggregate across all T20 formats.

Travis Head’s Monumental Century

Travis Head, the dynamic Australian who has clinched the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup for his nation in the past year, continued to show why he’s a force to be reckoned with in the shorter format. Having already impressed with a rapid 62 off 24 balls earlier in the season against Mumbai, Head took his game to new heights against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), smashing a career-best 102 from just 41 deliveries. His performance included a barrage of eight sixes, contributing to a total of 22 sixes for Sunrisers, another record for the IPL.

RCB, on their part, made a commendable effort to keep the contest alive, clearing the boundaries 16 times as they chased down the steep target. Despite their spirited batting, they concluded their innings at 262 for 7, with Dinesh Karthik leading their charge with a swift 83 off 35 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen Joins the Six-Hitting Fest

Following the explosive start by Head, Heinrich Klaasen promoted to No. 3, seamlessly continued the momentum. Initially slow, scoring just three from his first five balls, Klaasen soon adapted, launching powerful sixes into the stands. His aggressive stance saw him add significantly to the total, including a spectacular 106m strike that flew over the stadium’s roof. By the time he was dismissed, Sunrisers had soared to 231, and the stage was set to surpass their previous best of 277.

Karthik’s Valiant Effort in Vain

In response to Sunrisers’ daunting score, RCB needed a strong start, and that’s precisely what they got from Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who amassed 79 in the powerplay. However, they still lagged behind the required rate, which had escalated to nearly 15 runs per over. As the innings progressed, a brief collapse saw them struggling at 122 for 5 after ten overs. Despite this, Karthik’s brilliant innings, including seven sixes, kept the hopes of an extraordinary finish alive until his dismissal in the penultimate over effectively sealed the fate of the match, with RCB recording their fifth consecutive loss.
