Ireland to Tour Pakistan for White-Ball Series in 2025
Cricket Ireland has confirmed an historic men’s tour of Pakistan scheduled for August and September 2025. The tour will feature three T20Is and three ODIs, forming part of the Future Tours Programme (FTP).
Confirmation of Ireland’s Tour
Cricket Ireland has officially announced the dates for the men’s cricket team’s first-ever tour of Pakistan. The tour, comprising three T20 Internationals (T20Is) and three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), is set for August and September 2025. This series, a notable addition to the Future Tours Programme (FTP), highlights the growing cricketing ties between Ireland and Pakistan.
Schedule Details Yet to Be Released
Despite the announcement, specific details regarding the tour dates and venues remain under wraps. This confirmation follows the successful tour of the Ireland Women’s team to Pakistan in November 2022, where they played three ODIs and three T20Is.
Meetings and Miscommunications
The confirmation came after a pivotal meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Cricket Ireland Chairman Brian MacNeice. Initially, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement suggesting that Ireland would also play a Test series in Pakistan, although this was not included in the FTP.
“Chairman Cricket Ireland said that the Irish team would visit Pakistan next year in August-September for a Test series and would also review the possibility of a women’s team tour to Pakistan soon,” the PCB statement read.
However, when ESPNcricinfo sought clarification, the PCB denied any formal agreement regarding a Test series, contradicting their earlier statement. Cricket Ireland’s spokesperson indicated that the details of the tour’s fixture list would be discussed further by both boards.
Official Statement from Cricket Ireland
Following the PCB’s release, Cricket Ireland published its own statement regarding the meeting between Naqvi and MacNeice. Describing their discussions as “wide-ranging,” the statement confirmed the agreement for the men’s tour in 2025, noting its historic significance following the senior women’s tour in 2022.
Currently, the Pakistan men’s team is in Ireland for a three-match T20I series. With the series tied 1-1, the decider will take place on Tuesday.
