Expansion of Iconic Ground

The iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground is set to undergo a significant transformation with the approval of a £61.8 million redevelopment plan. The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members have given the green light to enhance and expand the revered venue, promising to bolster its legacy as the home of cricket.

Enhancing Capacity and Facilities

This ambitious project will see the demolition and reconstruction of the Allen Stand, introducing an additional tier to increase seating. Similarly, the Tavern Stand is set to receive a new fourth level. Together, these upgrades will boost the ground’s capacity by 1,100 seats, accommodating more fans in what is often seen as the world’s most famous cricket ground.

Modernising Lord’s

Set to commence at the end of the current cricket season in September, with a target completion year of 2027, the redevelopment aims not only to expand but also to modernize the facilities. The MCC outlines improvements in catering, hospitality, and accessibility, ensuring that Lord’s remains at the forefront of providing a first-class spectator experience.

Historical Context

This is not the first recent upgrade at Lord’s; a £53 million project to redevelop the Compton and Edrich stands was completed in 2021, raising the capacity to 31,000. This continuous investment highlights the MCC’s commitment to preserving the ground’s status while adapting to the evolving demands of cricket audiences and players alike.
