Report: Sri Lanka Announce New Coach for England Series

Jayasuriya Takes the Helm for Sri Lanka’s England Series

Coaching Change at Sri Lanka Cricket

In a significant shake-up within Sri Lanka Cricket, Sanath Jayasuriya steps up as the interim men’s head coach for the upcoming three-Test series against England. This appointment follows Chris Silverwood’s resignation after a less-than-stellar performance at the T20 World Cup, which saw Sri Lanka bowing out early.

Jayasuriya’s Debut in Coaching

Jayasuriya, a revered figure in Sri Lankan cricket and a former national selector has accepted his first major coaching assignment. “I have been asked to take over coaching and I am happy to do it,” Jayasuriya expressed in a statement to AFP. At 55, his transition from a consultant to the coach for the England series in August and September marks a new chapter in his cricketing career.

Limited Tenure with a Vision

While Jayasuriya’s tenure is confirmed only for the duration of the England series, his vast experience is expected to bring a fresh perspective and galvanize the team. Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive, Ashley de Silva, remarked on the appointment, “Sanath, with his wealth of international cricketing experience, is well positioned to guide the national team until we find a permanent solution.”

Jayasuriya’s legacy as a player is immense, with 586 international caps for Sri Lanka, including his last appearance in 2011. His new role is eagerly anticipated by fans and players alike, as they look to reinvigorate their performance on the international stage.
