Cricket Ireland is poised for a monumental leap forward with the Irish government’s recent endorsement of a national cricket stadium. On Wednesday, the Irish government confirmed that planning and design work for the National Cricket Stadium and High Performance Centre, to be situated at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown, will officially begin. The first phase will deliver a primary cricket oval equipped with permanent seating for 4,000 spectators. Provision for additional temporary seating will also be made, catering to larger audiences. Deutrom has described this development as “absolutely fantastic,” acknowledging its significance for the future of Irish cricket. “It is a huge tribute to everybody involved at all levels in Irish cricket who have got us to the stage whereby the government genuinely regards us as a sport of national significance worthy of major investment,” he stated.

Deutrom emphasised that the establishment of a dedicated cricket venue will reduce the reliance on temporary infrastructure, thereby reallocating funds to more impactful areas. “It means we’re going to be using much less temporary infrastructure, which means we can put that money instead into people and programmes – and allow us to focus investment into club and regional facilities and infrastructure through our new club fund – to help grow the game,” he explained.
